Johnny Ray Perry

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Johnny Ray Perry, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on March 30th at the age of 77. Johnny's spirit, his laughter, and his warmth will live on forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. Born on May 5th,1947 in Caney, Kansas, Johnny was an active child who enjoyed music, playing baseball, and playing a lot of practical jokes. He dedicated his life to his family and helping everyone he could. Johnny was well known for being a great dancer and was always a well sought out partner for the dance floor. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. As a father, Johnny instilled in his children the values of honesty, hard work, and being kind. Johnny served as a councilman in his hometown of Caney. He had a passion for engines, so much so that he had an aircraft engine in his garage at one time. He became an avid tractor collector and loved everything about them, including driving them, teaching kids how to drive them, and giving them rides. He actively participated in the Jaycees and Tractor Club organizations. Johnny learned how to be a mechanic from his father and was an aircraft mechanic in the Navy. After leaving the Navy, he continued his career as a mechanic for several companies and also had his own auto repair business. He is survived by his spouse, Karen Schaper; children, Sandra Perry, and Angela and Brad Shinn, Hali Schaper and Bozy Thornbrough; grandchildren, Harley and Allison Swick, Sawyer Dodd, Maverick, Trey, Davian, Lyric, Jacob, and Gunner Thornbrough along with many others who called him dad and grandpa; his sisters, Emma Jean Shaw, Kay Doggett, Alice Bennett and Carol Bradford and brother, Danny Perry. Johnny was predeceased by his mother and father, Raymond and Pearl Perry, and his brothers Eugene Perry, Carl Perry, and Jack Perry. A celebration of his life will be held on April 12th at 2pm at The Church of Nazarene located at 407 N. Spring Street in Caney, Kansas. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life and have dinner afterwards. Flowers or condolences can be sent to 9285 N. 3985 Way Copan, OK 74022. His final resting place will be in Peru, KS at El Cado Cemetery. He will be forever missed and always will remain in our heart
